History of Our Parish

Catholic Church of the Presentation G.R.A, IkejaOur Parish started as a Mass Centre under St Agnes Catholic Church Maryland.

The first Mass was celebrated on the grounds on January 24, 2009 with Msgr. John Aniagwu (under the approval of His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Okogie) as the chief celebrant. He was assisted by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Adebayo, Msgr. Phillip Hoteyin, Rev Fr. Ethelbert Ukpabi, Rev. Fr. Nnaemeka and others. This signaled the take off of the Mass Centre. The following day, January 25th witnessed the celebration of the first Sunday Mass at 7.00 a.m.

At this time Sunday Masses were being held in the open air, but later canopies were brought in to provide shade. The congregation was about 25 (twenty five) in number.

To the Glory of God, on January 27th 2010 the Mass Centre was elevated to the status of a Quasi Parish and Rev. Fr. Ethelbert Ukpabi appointed Priest-in-Charge. With this elevation came many challenges and responsibilities which included the need to have a residence for the Priest-in-charge, and the expansion of the temporary Church building which had become inadequate to accommodate the increasing number of worshippers.
Again to the Glory of God, the priest's residence was completed in record time and commissioned in September 2010 by His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Okogie.

Sunday Masses increased to two in 2011 and three in 2012 (6.30 a.m., 8.00a.m. and 10.00a.m.). The Children's Section took off on June 19 2011 with Sunday School which grew from two classes to four and eventually gave rise to Children's Mass at 8.00 a.m. on Sundays. We also have one outstation at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

As at October 2013, there were a total of nineteen (19) pious societies and organizations in the Parish and total attendance at Mass on Sundays in excess of 1,500 – up from 25 on that first Sunday on January 25th 2010!
